Human Resources: HR 101 for Supervisors & Managers

Human Resource positions all aplay a significant role in shaping the workplace culture.  HR 101 will assist in forming a foundation that will allow for business operations to run more smoothly.

Participants will be provided with an overview of a First Nation’s accountability as an employer under both Federal and Provincial employment-related legislation.  They will learn the importance of compliance and its value in managing or preventing any unnecessary risks to the business.

Other areas of focus will be:

  • What is HR Management
  • Best Practices in Policy and Procedure Development
  • Introduction to Legislation (Employment Standards & Canada Labor Standards)
  • Human Rights Legislation & the duty to Accommodate
  • Workplace Safety and Health
  • Respectful Workplace (Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention)

 

Who should attend?

This session is intended to support the development of supervisors and managers who may not have an HR background or who are new to managing others within their organization.  For elected leaders who may be new to their role, this session will provide some best practices for providing leadership in the oversight of the HR function.
